These two pieces provide visual examples of books made during the Adirondack literature boom in the twenty years after World War II. The Poem “Mt. Whiteface” is an especially nice combination of text and art. The pen and ink drawing to the right of the poem is quite interesting, with its use of different stroke directions creating a variety of visual textures. The poem itself is another example of self-reflection when “in touch” with the wilderness of the Adirondacks, this time in sonnet form (with fourteen lines in iambic pentameter and a “turn” signaled by the end rhyming couplet).
