Throughout my survey of Adirondack poetry, I stumbled across multiple books that included pieces in the same style as “The Hollywood Club”. These poems are written in dialect, which not only serves to root the poem more firmly in the Adirondacks, but also to lighten the poem. The use of dialect here allows funny wrenched rhymes (such as “deer” and “dere”).
