1979-2013: Private and Public Spaces
With the creation of the Adirondack Park Agency (APA) in 1971, the desire to preserve and enjoy this wilderness— something quickly disappearing from the United States landscape— has remained strong. The development of the literary magazine Blueline in 1979 is an important marker of how far Adirondack literature has come. For the last thirty-four years it has been publishing poems (as well as art, fiction, and nonfiction) in “the spirit of the Adirondacks” and has successfully done so. The poems from the last fifty years or so serve mainly to identify the human in nature and explore the effects of wilderness on humanity and humanity on wilderness.
