This website was created for Twitter and Society, a sociology capstone course at St. Lawrence University taught by Dr. Stephen Barnard. Although the course focuses broadly on Twitter’s sociological significance, it also aims to shed light on some of the most intriguing dynamics through original research. In light of these goals, the class will conduct various analyses of journalistic and protest-oriented tweets in response to the killing of an unarmed, black teenager by a white police officer in Ferguson, Missouri.
This site, which is made possible by a Crossing Boundaries grant, will serve two primary functions: first, as a work space for some of our data, and second, as a showcase for the analyses we conduct and findings we arrive at. There is a lot to look forward to, so stay tuned.
