Tomorrow we leave
We are going to the south Branch of the Potomac to build a bridge our Co. only and we shall not get any mail.   We probably shall be gone two weeks so there is no particular  hurry about  The Box .___  sent a few fried-cakes in my box.   I expected a letter to night from you but it did not come.   I got one a week ago to night.  Our company is all busy a writing and packing up to leave for we leave early in the morning.  we may see a little fighting  before we come back.  What do you think about the war.   I think that it will be settled before January.  I cannot see it any other way by looking at the Presidents proclamation of Sept. 22nd and his message for it gives the rebels everything they can ask for.  I have bet $5.00 dollars that that peace will be declared before the first of January  I may be foolish if so all right.  If you cannot get the fancy flannel with out to much trouble you need not send them though I should like them.  Make them very large.   Everything is lovely.  Write as usual.  This from
