Description:
These tiny (several millimeters-long), calcified structures found in the vestibular regions of the inner ear help control the sense of balance in all vertebrates. These saculus otoliths were taken from starry flounder specimens (in collaboration with Dr. Carolyn Bergstrom, University of Alaska).
