Fisher Hall Fire

Description:
Canton Fire Department volunteers were called the night of December 11, 1951 to a blaze at Fisher Hall. No one was hurt but the fire destroyed the building, which was razed a few months later. Less than three years later, Atwood Hall was completed and became the new home to the University's Universalist Theological Seminary.

Description:
Opened in 1883 and named to honor the first President of SLU's Universalist Seminary, Fisher Hall became the third building on the University campus. It served as the home of the Theological School until its destruction by fire in December 1951. The building stood roughly where the Torrey Wing of the Owen D. Young Library is today.
