St. Lawrence University's first building dedicated entirely to the sciences. In 1905, one of America's most famous authors, 1882 alum Irving Bachellor, convinced steel magnate Andrew Carnegie to donate $50,000 for construction of the building bearing his name. The building at various times housed a U.S. Weather Bureau station, one of the first college radio stations, and was even used as a dormitory.
